One hour before you start painting, mix the catalyst and clear coat and stir it up, put the cap back on. While you wait for the paint to catalyze, rub down the wheels with isopropyl alcohol.

I've tried acetone, lacquer thinner, Kleen Strip and carb cleaner. NOTHING is removing the old clear. Used a third of a can of Kleen Strip and brushed for 2 hours with little effect.

Took a day and looks good. Put 90k hard miles on them and still look good. If I remeber correctly they had a aluminum color that almost matched the color of the clear coated wheels.
