The information in this post also works with other similar LED strips, such as strips of the WS28XX family, Neopixel strip and others. We show you how to wire the strip to the Arduino, and the code you need to upload to produce effects.

If you want to control a long LED strip then WS2811 is the obvious choice for you. But on the other hand, if you want to control LEDs at the granular level of a single LED, then WS2812 is the option for you to go for.

In WLED -> Sync Interfaces: enable UDP Broadcast and turn on notifications (see screenshot below). Once the plugin is started it will create appropriate domoticz devices.

Before we connect the Raspberry Pi to the WS2812 LED Strip, we finish the power supply. If your strip has less than 20-30 LEDs, external power is not required. If it has more LEDs, the power of the Pi, however, is no longer enough and an external power supply is required. The power supply itself depends on the selected type.

A pixel has 3 leds (RGB), each led drains a max of 20mA, so a pixel drains a max of 60mA (3 * 20mA). So the total current that the power supply must deliver is 60mA times the number of pixels. For example 80 pixels: 60mA * 80 = 4800mA = 4.8A. Also the ESP8266 is powered by the power supply so in this example a power supply of 6A (30W) will do.

Im simply trying to use the NeoPixel Strandtest which works perfectly on my Arduino UNO with the same LED strip, but when I change the #define pin 6 to #define pin D4 (or 12 as GPIO) only the first LED lights up and its green.
