Apr 30, 2007 I use an aluminum pot. A couple advantages are #1 it is a lot cheaper and #2 aluminum transfers heat much better than stainless. I have to imagine that SS would last longer, but I don't see my pot going bad any time soon. Also as said above aluminum oxidizes, especially under heat. Do 1 brew and most of the inside of the pot has a coating of Al2O3.

I use an aluminum pot for BIAB, but I am soon upgrading to stainless. Aluminum pots work just fine, the beer you make will be just as tasty as a stainless pot. Just give an aluminum pot a good boil or two full of water before you brew with it.

For a SST fermenter or other equipment that comes into contact with fermenting or finished beer, then it is probably better to have a shiny or polished surface since there are fewer places for spoiling microbes to hide.

In our opinion, the best mash tun for most homebrewers is the SS Brewtech InfuSsion mash tun. It is a beautiful piece of insulated stainless steel with a thermowell, thermometer, recirculation bulkhead, and a sloped floor with a center outlet. It would be hard to improve on the InfuSsion. Apr 07, 2014 It depends on the material of the pot. If it's stainless steel, PBW or similar and some scrubbing will turn it up nicely. If it's aluminum, be careful of using caustic cleaners - just use regular dish soap. The aluminum pot will develop a protective oxidation layer that you want to preserve, so don't scrub too hard with anything abrasive.
